Become a Mentor at Refugee Resource

Are you passionate about making a difference in someone’s life? Join us as a volunteer mentor and help refugees, asylum-seekers, and vulnerable migrants build a brighter future in Oxfordshire.

As a mentor, you'll be paired with a mentee who needs your support, guidance, and companionship. By dedicating just an hour a week (with some flexibility), you can make a meaningful impact in their life. Over the course of 12 months, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Help them practice and improve their English skills.

  • Share a friendly chat over coffee to brighten their day.

  • Explore Oxfordshire together, introducing them to local culture and landmarks.

Your mentorship provides more than practical support - it offers a connection, a sense of belonging, and a stepping stone toward a fulfilling life in their new community.

Join us in creating a welcoming Oxfordshire for everyone.

Hannah and Nawar’s story

Sharing a heartwarming interview that highlights the transformative impact of our mentoring service. In this feature, Hannah Newth, our trustee and former mentor, and Nawar, her mentee from Syria, talk about the incredible bond they’ve built through our programme.

Charles’s story

Charles volunteered as a Mentor with Refugee Resource in 2021 and 2022. He met with his mentee on a weekly basis for a year.

I passionately think that everybody should support the work of Refugee Resource. It is about the whole business of loving your neighbour. People who are most excluded and most vulnerable are the people who most deserve care and attention

Daniela’s Story

Daniela joined Refugee Resource as a volunteer mentor in January 2023. She completed her training and was matched with her mentee in May 2023.

Wouldn’t it be great if we all tried just for a split second, to see the world through their eyes and imagine what it would be like to walk in their shoes, to see asylum seekers as human beings?
